The first week of the Jupiter Premier League started with usual suspects showing consistent form which set the scene for the rest of the cycle. Henry Birch kicked off with a 3-0 win over an in-form Laurence Graham showing positive signs leading up to the Guernsey Championships. In league 4 Chris de Putron and Tom Eulenkamp had a gut-wrenchingly close encounter with Chris just edging the match 3-2, both players knew the others game well due to playing in the same team in Monday night squash (could there be a change in the pecking order going forward!?)
One of the highlights of the cycle saw Janick Radford squeeze a 3-2 win over PJ Josey in week 4. After an hour and fifteen minutes of hard graft from both players Radford managed to hit a few more winners on the important points and make Josey work hard. A dominant performance from Callum Wrench earned him promotion and saw only Matt Robin take a game off him. Wrench was closely followed by Matt Robilliard in the finishing order, who won a tough deciding match between him and Andy Biggins for promotion.
League 3 saw Alex Robin and Kevin Murphy earn promotion with 21 points, although they had to put up a fight with Tony “the 5 setter” Jones closely following on 20 points. Leo Fossey had a great cycle in his return to the Premier league only dropping a game to Natalie Dodd to win the league. Natalie also had a positive cycle beating the rest of her opponents 3-2 in some super-tight battles. Leagues 4 & 5 saw stand out performances from Adam Thoumine and Bruce Tostevin who both managed to win their respective leagues with the majority of their wins being 3-0 or 3-1.
It’s great to see players performing consistently in the higher divisions with just a few weeks left until the Inter Insular and European Team Championships. This will surely cause Jersey some headaches and gives Guernsey a strong chance to come out with a victory!
